Home / Introduction
The Nordic MDS Group is a scientific organisation aiming to improve treatment for patients with myelodysplastic syndromes, and to facilitate research about disease biology. The group was founded in 1984 and encompass since 2001 all Nordic countries.
The Nordic MDS Group also provides Nordic guidelines for MDS management on-line and patient information in all Nordic languages, and arranges international educational courses for hematologists with an interest in the disease.
The group has performed and reported a large series of clinical studies and has a strong international record. Several projects have focused on the analysis of predictive factors for response to various therapies, and others have piloted new treatment concepts. NMDSG also participates in an EU funded MDS Registry for low-risk MDS aiming to assess how disease evolves and is treated in the clinical practice. The prime aim of NMDSG is to run investigator-initiated studies, but we also participate in several corporate protocols evaluating the effects of new drugs.
NMDSG has arranged two International MDS courses in Stockhom 2006 and in Copenhagen 2008. Moreover, we have in collaboration with the International MDS Foundation arranged three patient forums; Stockholm 2006, and Copenhagen and Lund 2008. A fourth forum will be held in Stockholm during the spring 2009.
Our website aims at serving study group members and Nordic hematologists and to provide basic information for patients. The open pages include contact information for the secretariat and all national and regional coordinators, as well as short descriptions of ongoing NMDSG studies. There is also patient information in all Nordic languages. The Nordic Guidelines for management of MDS was published in November 2004, and is regularly updated, next time in November 2008. Member pages contain study protocols and reports, and equivalent information.
Nordic MDS group meetings . These are announced at the open pages and academic institutions and hospitals are welcome to send participants to the meetings, which are open for all interested colleagues.
